Frame Details
The care behind every framed map
Built to hang. Built to last. Built in the USA.
Your map marks the places that matter. So when you choose a frame, we don't pull one off a shelf. Every McSenderson frame is custom-built to order in the USA, cut to the exact size of your map, mounted, and shipped to your door ready to hang.
We switched to made-to-order framing for one reason: our customers deserve a frame that arrives in one piece and looks as good as the map inside it.

The frame
Clean, modern, and sized to let the map do the talking.
- Profile: 1¼" flat face, ¾" deep
- Material: composite wood core with a wood-grain finish, so the grain is consistent from corner to corner
- Construction: cut and joined to order for your exact map size
- Made in: the USA
- Overall size: the frame adds about 2" to the width and height of your map (an 18" x 24" map is about 20" x 26" framed)
Five finishes

- Black: crisp and modern. Makes bright maps pop and works in any room.
- Walnut: a deep, warm brown. Our pick for dark maps like National Parks and Top 50 Ski.
- Cherry: a warm, reddish wood tone. Classic lodge and study feel.
- Natural Oak: a golden mid-tone wood. Easy to pair with light walls and natural decor.
- Driftwood: a soft, sandy gray-tan. Light and coastal, great with modern and cabin spaces.
Wood-grain finishes vary slightly from screen to screen. Mockups are digital renderings.
The finishing details
- Acid-free foamcore backing keeps your map flat and protects it from yellowing over time.
- No glass on the front. Scratch-off maps are meant to be used, so there is nothing between you and the next spot you scratch. It also means no glare and nothing to break in shipping.
- Hanging hardware installed. Take it out of the box and put it on the wall.
- Your map is mounted for you. No wrestling a poster into a frame on the living room floor.

How it works
- You order. Pick your map and a frame finish.
- We build it. Your frame is cut, assembled, and your map is mounted to order.
- It ships free. Framed maps ship in 4–6 business days in protective packaging. We'll email you when your frame goes into production and again when it ships with tracking.
Frame FAQ
How long until my framed map ships?
Framed maps are made to order and ship in 4–6 business days, then transit time depends on where you live. Unframed maps ship separately and faster. If you order a framed and an unframed map together, they will arrive in separate boxes.
Is there glass or acrylic on the front?
No. Our frames are open-faced so you can keep scratching off places while the map hangs on the wall.
Does the listed map size include the frame?
No. The size listed is the map. The frame adds about 2" to the width and height.
Is it ready to hang?
Yes. Hanging hardware is installed and the map is already mounted.
Can I scratch the map while it is framed?
Yes, that is the whole idea. Use the scratch pick or a coin and scratch gently.
Is shipping free on framed maps?
Yes, every framed map ships free within the US.
Do you ship framed maps internationally?
Framed maps currently ship within the US only. Unframed maps ship internationally.
What if my frame arrives damaged?
Email hello@mcsenderson.com with a photo of the frame and the box, and we'll make it right.
Can I return a framed map?
Framed maps are built to order for you. See our Return Policy for details.
Prefer to frame it yourself?
Totally fair. Here are a few affordable frames we like. Just match the frame size to your map (most of our maps are 18" x 24", a few are 16" x 20" or 11" x 14").
- upsimples picture frame (Amazon): simple and budget-friendly.
- Room Essentials tube profile poster frame, black (Target): a clean black frame that goes with anything.
- Room Essentials thin poster frame, brass (Target): a slim metallic edge for a modern look.
- RÖDALM frame, walnut effect (IKEA): a warm wood look for less.
- WITCOLOR magnetic wood poster hanger (Amazon): no frame and no glass, so you can keep scratching while it hangs.
Tip: most store-bought frames have glass or acrylic on the front. Scratch off what you've done before you frame it, or go with a hanger.
